....It would be best to wait until this Summer for the next OS upgrade to come out (10.7 aka Lion) otherwise you'll be looking at an OS upgrade cost to you in the future.

Perhaps Lion will cost relatively little, such as the Snow Leopard upgrade.

MacBook Airs:
extremely portable
slower processors than the iMac
SSD is faster than the iMac's traditional hard drive, but less storage capacity
memory can't be upgraded after purchase
no Thunderbolt ports

iMacs:
not very portable
faster processors than the Air
traditional hard drive is slower than the Air's SSD, but has more storage capability
memory can be upgraded after purchase

You forgot to add that the iMac has a much much much bigger screen which, besides everything else, is of much higher quality than than any MBA.

OP in every aspect the iMac is the better value for money - faster, bigger screen, more convenient even for trivial tasks like writing and browsing, let alone picture editing. You have to decide whether you need a laptop or a desktop.

I've decided to go for both, as it turned out I cannot give up the ergonomics of a desktop computer while at home.

thanks so much for the replies. i gave the ps3mediaserver app a try and the results were better than i expected. i was worried that on the fly transcoding would degrade video to webcam quality or something! hopefully between that and the wd nas, i'll have a decent set of options for downloaded content.

and fingers crossed that either a more competent browser or a better canadian netflix selection will show up on the horizon someday.

in the meantime i just looked at the trailer for wipeout HD fury, @-SD- you have a surprising insight into exactly the type of game that i'd enjoy, thanks! :)

I too have been using Mactubes, and it works better than the in-browser flash player, but I can't seem to get quicktime to work.

"Can not open video. Please open URL with browser."

That's the error that I get when I switch to Quicktime. Any ideas?

It works on my iPad 2. It shows the Netflix red screen on my iPad and then the stream on my TV with the audio coming from my TV. I don't have to do anything special aside from plug the cables in and we're good to go. I don't have any additional display apps on my iPad.

Are you using the new HDMI adapter?

I was after the CoolerMaster Q Aluminium keyboard that toezter has, but it seems to be discontinued.
After a trip to my local evil PC World though (do they ever get any better?!?) I saw a fully brushed aluminium, PB type (but full) keyboard. Looks very, very nice. Pricey at �50, and is USB not wireless. But the major downer is the logo on the keyboard right above the function keys in the centre.....

i am visiting apps that i bought via itunes and there is no any info there that i bought or not. So, if i format or change my mac then can i restore with that backed up folder?

That wasn't an issue on that series of powerbooks. Also, I wouldn't recommend attempting a reflow.. a new logic board is much easier, especially since I dont think it is a reflow issue - since the gfx is working but corrupted.

Just buy one now. Rumours are pointing towards a Q4 or Q1 2012 release. No point in waiting that long. The iPhone 4 is a great device, get the white one if you want to be different. :D

I was worried that'd be the case. I reckon you're best bet might be to take it back to Apple quickly if it's not too much trouble for you. They should be very good about fixing it considering it stopped working under their watch. Sorry I can't be more helpful. :o
